Tongan Mission President Letter
- The Kingdom of Tonga comprises 168 coral and volcanic islands
- Was named the "Friendly Islands" by Captain James Cook
- There are many islands of Tonga on which missionaries serve
- There are 4 mission boats used to transport missionaries to and from these islands
- He will probably wear tupenus (skirts) and sandals most of the time
- Pens are at a premium, so bring a couple packages of them
- Bring all contacts, contact solution and deodorant to the MTC that he will need for the entire 2 years. (Don't they wear deodorant in Tonga???? Just askin')
- Come prepared to live in a manner that shows no affluence. There is an attitude of sharing there that others sometimes don't understand.
- If your parents desire to send things, send enough for two, as Tongan elders do not have the available resources that "palangi" elders have and sharing is greatly appreciated.
Two more weeks to go!
BTW, his open house is Saturday, March 26 from 5-7pm @ our house.
Farewell is Sunday, March 27 @ 9am at the Stake Center, 11am Helix Ward. All are welcome to any/all.

What a Trip

We had to get everything off of the freeway, but not leaving anything alone to get stolen. Long story, LONGER day. 8 hours later we were all home safely.
Synopsis of the day: 2 motorcycle crashes
1 concussion (he's okay now)
4 extra trips to the mountains
Picking a toolbox and all its contents off the middle of the freeway between cars
5 worn out teens
2 great friends coming to the rescue
and untold "shenanigans" that they're not giving up while they waited (thanks Mark!)
We're just glad it's over; and after several hours today, the car is finally running again. Is it Friday yet?

Prescott Update
Joy and Max left today for their mission. Before they left most of the family were able to get together to do a little photo shoot and lunch. It was a fun day to spend together one last time before our missionaries leave. We did miss Ashley and Zak, though, but we're so proud of what they're doing and their accomplishments.
We will soon have 4 Prescotts out on missions. Hopefully ALL the boys will follow in their grandparents footsteps.Friday, February 25, 2011

Mammoth Getaway
There was a bookshelf, and as I was looking at the books the name was familiar on these...the man who owns the condo is a best selling author. NICE! The picture bottom right is at The Village. It was nice hanging out there.
The kids enjoyed the board park. I stayed to the side where there were no jumps.

The top middle picture (above) was where I went down last for the day. It doesn't even look very steep, but trust me, it was. David & Eric went to the left (left side of picture). I missed that turn and ended up going down the steeper hill. It was icy and I did okay for a short while. Then I fell. It was hard to get up since I'm goofy footed and do better starting on my knees instead of my butt. It was too steep to kick my board around, so what's a girl to do? Icy - steep - oh yeah, I slid. Bet you can see my butt marks till the steep part's over:) Then I was able to flip over and continue the rest of the way. I have no pride!!
It was so cold and windy at the top of the mountain. The sign at the top said winds 40-50 mph.
Sunday morning we got up to leave and this is what we saw...lots of snow! Here's a picture off of our porch of David loading up the car. He had to dig out the roof racks to be able to put the boards on top. We were lucky we were able to drive out with just using our 4x4 and no chains. So much different than Big Bear snow! It was such a fun little trip. We were all exhausted by the end of each day and just hung out in the condo. The snow was so nice and powdery, and so much funner to snowboard in than ice! David and I even got a little bit of time to hang out together and just remember who each other is. We all laughed so hard, especially when Eric suggested playing the quiet game when dad got too obnoxious! He said that Uncle Kevin taught him well! Definitely some fun times and great memories.

Tribute to a Loving Lady....

Growing up I never ever thought of myself as a dog person. In fact I never really understood how people could let dogs in their house or get all emotional when their pet got sick or died.... I guess maybe you could say I was a bit uncaring? But that was before I had a dog of my own. We had always planned on getting a dog when our kids were old enough to take care of one. But that's not always the way things turn out. Lady came into our lives sort of unexpectedly. She was Jamey's brother's (Brien) dog & he was moving & needed a place for her to stay "temporarily". After about 2 weeks we knew the boys loved her like family & Jamey told Brien that if he wanted his dog back he needed to come & get her right away. As it turns out Brien was hoping this would happen.

That was back in 2000 & as you can see by all the pictures she was a very loved dog. In fact, I think she thought she was human. I've never seen a dog let kids do so many things to them & not get angry or bite. She loved the boys & would always "protect" them when Jamey would wrestle with them. We have so many wonderful memories of our Lady. She kept me company when the boys went out of town. She kept the boys beds warm while they were at school & she loved to follow Jamey around the house. When it comes time to get another dog, I'm not sure that any will ever compare.

RIP Lady!
